In Alberta, Mental Illnesses are one of the leading cause of disability claims, and mental health was added to the OH&S legislation in 2018.
Many people take Physical first aid. We are taught how to handle a broken bone, injury to an eye, or many physical ailments. What happens though, when someone experiences a Panic Attack? How would you respond if a coworker, friend, or family member was suffering through a mental health problem?
Mental Health First Aid Basic, a program of the Mental Health Commission of Canada, helps you develop the skills to assist someone over the age of twenty-four experiencing a mental health crisis, and provide ongoing support. Develop key foundational skills in this two-day workshop, such as learning to recognize the signs of common mental health issues, effective communication skills, intervention techniques, and community supports. Through this workshop, companies gain insight into how to retain staff and improve overall employee wellness.
